Deeplinks for Ecommerce, Protect Mobile Checkout and Apple Pay

Deeplinks for Ecommerce, Protect Mobile Checkout and Apple Pay

Social traffic converts worse than every other channel and the in app browser is usually why. Here is how ecommerce sellers protect mobile checkout.

6 min

TL;DR. Social traffic converts worse than email or search for a reason that has nothing to do with intent. The in app browser strips your buyer of saved addresses, card autofill and Apple Pay at the exact moment they were ready to pay. Getting them into the native shopping app, or out into their real browser for your own store, restores all three. Free to set up and it does not touch your store.

If your mobile conversion rate from social looks broken, this is the first thing to rule out.

Where the money leaks

The tap is fine. The product page loads. Then checkout begins and the buyer discovers their address is not saved, their card is not saved, and the accelerated payment buttons they normally use are missing or non functional. Typing a card number on a phone inside a cramped window is where the cart is abandoned.

Your analytics will record the session and the exit without telling you the cause, which is why this problem survives so long in so many stores.

Two different fixes for two different cases

Marketplace products. If you sell on Amazon, eBay, Etsy, Vinted or AliExpress, the answer is opening the native app. Your buyer is already signed in there, one tap purchase works, and app exclusive pricing applies where it exists.

Your own store. If you run your own Shopify or WooCommerce site, there is usually no app to open. The right outcome is escaping the in app browser into the buyer's real browser, where their session, autofill and wallet all live.

Both are handled by the same kind of link, which detects the context and picks the route that works.

Setting it up

  1. Identify the destination that carries most of your social traffic, your store, a collection or a marketplace listing.

  2. Generate a deeplink for it, keeping your tracking parameters intact.

  3. Add a clean slug, because a readable link raises trust at the moment of purchase.

  4. Use it in your bio, your Stories, your DM automations and your printed QR codes.

  5. Record your mobile conversion rate for two weeks before and after, changing nothing else.

Measuring it honestly

Compare conversion rate rather than absolute sales, since traffic varies. Change only the link in that window, not your offer or your posting rhythm. And use one link per placement so your per link statistics tell you which placement carries the problem.

Also worth knowing, social traffic often arrives with the referrer stripped and shows up as direct in your analytics. A deeplink does not fix that. One link per placement is how you get the visibility back.

The bottom line

You paid for this traffic in money or in effort. Losing it at the payment step, for a reason that has nothing to do with your product or your price, is the cheapest problem you will ever fix. It does not require touching your store.
