Event links open logged out from Instagram, so ticket buyers lose their basket and their saved card. Here is how to fix event links, free.

TL;DR. Event and festival promotion is all mobile and all impulse, and the in app browser breaks both. Ticket buyers land signed out with no saved card, drops and presales lose their urgency, and printed QR codes send scanners to a browser instead of the app. A deeplink fixes all three with one setup. Free, and the same link powers your QR codes.
Events have a specific version of this problem, because the window to convert is short.
Three places the link fails
Ticket purchase. Your buyer taps your link from Instagram, lands on the ticketing page signed out, and has to create an account or type a card during a presale where seconds matter. On a drop with limited inventory, that is the difference between a sale and a sold out message.
Event pages. If you promote via a Facebook event, responding requires an account, which the webview does not have. Your RSVP numbers are lower than your reach suggests for that reason alone.
Printed material. Posters, flyers, wristbands and stage screens all carry QR codes. Scanned, most of them open a browser rather than the app where the attendee is signed in.
What a deeplink changes
It routes the scan or the tap into the native app where one exists, ticketing, Facebook events, your festival app, or out into the real browser where the attendee's session and saved card live. Either way the purchase or the RSVP becomes possible in the moment of intent.
Setting it up before a drop
Generate a deeplink for each destination you will promote, tickets, lineup, the event page.
Give each a readable slug, ideally including the event name and year, because attendees screenshot and share these.
Generate the QR codes from the same links so print and digital match.
Put the links in your bio, your Stories, your artist posts and your partner communications.
Test every one from inside Instagram on a real phone before the drop, not during it.
That last step matters more for events than anywhere else. There is no fixing a broken link during a presale.
What changes for an attendee
For someone tapping or scanning your event link | Plain link | OpenUp deeplink |
|---|---|---|
Opens in | Social app webview | Native app or real browser |
Signed in | No | Yes |
Saved card at checkout | Unavailable | Available |
RSVP on an event page | Blocked | One tap |
Printed QR code outcome | Browser | App |
The bottom line
Event promotion concentrates all of its conversion into a few short windows. Anything that adds friction during those windows costs disproportionately, and a signed out webview adds the most friction at the worst moment.

Can I track which poster or placement worked? Use one link per placement and read the per link statistics.
Do I need a developer? No.
